Dear colleague,
I would like inform you about the study trip and International Master Class on primary
care in Denmark.
The trip will take place from Tuesday, March 20 to Friday, March 23, 3:00.
Plenary lectures, site visits and workshops will be held in Arhus (21 and 22 March)
and Copenhagen (23 March). Our Danish host and primary organizer will be Frede
Oleson, Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health in Aarhus, Oleson is a
respected, well-known professor in Denmark.
There will be three central themes during the trip:
- The Establishment of partnerships between Doctors Surgeries and
Emergency Departments. In Denmark (divided into five regions with
approx. 900,000 inhabitants) these partnerships are controlled regionally.
Along with the promotion of cooperation, the ED's in Denmark are centralised,
as is the case in the Netherlands.
Furthermore, the Danish GP's conduct triage in their own offices.
This leads to considerable less face-to-face contacts and home visits.
But is the emergency care as good as in our own country?
- Digital messaging within primary care and with the hospital in view of the
chronically ill.
From a previous visit of yours truly and from reviews of literature we get
the impression that Denmark is more advanced in Chain Information Systems
than the Netherlands. Is that true? How did they set up the digital exchange
of messages? Top-down? Bottum-up? Through the regions?
- Applications for support in diagnostics from primary care, e.g. suspected
cancer in a patient. The Danish motto: 'if applied for yesterday, you will get
the diagnostic results today via the Internet".
Danish hospitals have special laboratories and X-ray departments for
primary care. GP's can only go there for a diagnostic advice.
In the Netherlands this is called 'anderhalfde lijn' (polyclinic).
In addition to these three specific themes, there will be plenary sessions to discuss
the organization, structure, funding and strengths and weaknesses of the Danish
primary care.
If you are interested in just one of the three themes, you can select site visits and
workshops in such a way that you can gain knowledge mainly about your chosen
theme. For this trip, we will also invite colleagues from the English primary care.
So, during this trip, there will also be an opportunity to learn more about the role
these three themes play in the United Kingdom.
The price of this Master Class is €2.295,- (inlcuding flight, transportation,
accomodation with breakfast, three lunches and two dinners, price may vary
for participants from other countries than the Netherlands because of different flights).
The final program will soon be published and can be viewed on
www.integratedcare.org by clicking through to Masterclasses.
I hope to be able to welcome you on March 20th, in Aarhus.
Yours Sincerely,
prof.dr Guus Schrijvers
Professor of Public Health
Health care unit at UMC Utrecht
